BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Modern
American School (MAS) is an international college
preparatory school situated in the heart of Amman, Jordan.
MAS fosters an environment of academic excellence and
promotes multicultural appreciation with an emphasis on
international connectedness and social engagement.
Founded in 1986
by the Zamel family, MAS is a co-educational school which
caters to students ages 3-18. MAS is made up of a
kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school.
Our views on
education stem from the principle that contemporary people
live and interact in an increasingly globalized world. For
that reason, schooling at MAS is not only grounded in a
strong academic platform, but also in an educational
experience that socializes and prepares our students to
become leaders of their own world in a safe, supportive, and
conducive environment.

MAS is

ACADEMIC & GUIDANCE COUNSELING
At Modern
American School’s (MAS) Counseling Department we have a
comprehensive counseling program that is mindful of the
developmental needs of our students. The ease of
accessibility of our counselors to both students and parents
allows us all to work together to insure that our students’
strengths and interests are highlighted in their university
applications and ultimately granting them admission to
top-tier colleges and universities across the globe that are
suited to their interests and further studies.
Our counseling program is designed to assist each individual
student in learning skills and setting goals to reach one's
academic potential. Our counselors work with our students
throughout their high school journey setting up students’
schedules while advising on electives and class
prerequisites.
Individual sessions with parents and students are regularly
conducted, including after school orientations to
continually inform our families of their children’s academic
path at various stages of their high school careers. The
counselors also register students in Advance Placement (AP)
courses, and help our students register and prepare for
college entrance exams such as the SAT I and SAT II exams.
TECHNOLOGY & EDUCATION
From our
Kindergarten through 8th grade, students use iPads and
specialized educational applications in the classroom
specifically designed for our international curriculum. At
the High School level, laptops are utilized with specific
e-Book curriculums also designed for our SAT/AP Program.
These resources help enhance the classroom experience, and
help diversify the learning process in order to cater to our
individual student needs. Additionally, all classrooms are
equipped with Smart Boards that are connected to
international learning communities worldwide for the latest
in education.
CURRICULUM
At the high
school, students in grades 9-12 follow a college preparatory
program structured around the Common Core Standards and
designed to prepare students for higher education in the
United States, Canada, the UK, and other universities
worldwide.
As an
international school guided by our mission and vision, MAS
is invested in offering educational opportunities that serve
both the Jordanian and international communities in Amman.
All courses at MAS are taught in English. In order to
provide the best opportunities for our students, we have
established a curriculum that encourages students to
continue their studies in all of the major academic
disciplines. In high school, students must earn credits (one
credit per course per year) in English, Mathematics,
Sciences, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages. They may
also choose from a wide variety of courses in fields such as
Engineering, Arts, and Technology.
Additionally,
we prepare our students for College Board standardized tests
that include the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, as well
as the Advanced Placement (AP) exams for our top achieving
students. On average, we offer six AP classes per year
taught by certified teachers.
At MAS, we are
able to achieve the highest academic standards by supporting
all of our students in their academic work towards earning
the American High School Diploma, which serves as the
foundation for further college education. As our students
enroll from schools across the world, an international
atmosphere is ever present. We strongly encourage our
students to exchange their cultural experiences and heritage
while embracing Jordan’s Arab culture and identity.
FACILITIES
At MAS, we
offer a wide range of facilities for our students. Two
campuses house our classrooms, each of which contains an
interactive board and a variety of other instructional
tools, in addition to administrative offices. Five
information technology labs, three science labs, three media
resources centers, and three arts studios support
instruction. Our multi-purpose hall and 375-seat theatre are
perfect venues for our students to celebrate their
knowledge, talents, and accomplishments. Finally, MAS
